Have you started to think about how you will spend Summer 2013? Poolside lounging and some glorious sleep-in sessions will, no doubt, be at the top of your priority list. But after a couple of weeks, even this laid back lifestyle can get old—your brain will be itching for a challenge that extends beyond deciding what flavor of ice cream to eat while you watch reruns of Modern Family. To keep your mind sharp, and meet a host of new friends in the process, you might want to consider devoting a few weeks of your summer to a college program designed especially for rising juniors and seniors.
Summer college programs allow you to live and learn in a real university atmosphere, complete with all of the fun residential and social activities, while you’re still in high school! You’ll experience the rigors of college-level academics, explore potential majors, conduct sophisticated research, and develop meaningful relationships with professors (who you can later ask for valuable letters of recommendation down the road.) Participation in these summer programs also speaks volumes about your commitment to personal growth and lifelong learning, two qualities that form the foundation of a solid college application.
Duke University offers a variety of summer programs that bring together talented students in an exciting, world-class learning environment. If you’re self-motivated and excited about your journey to and through college, then these programs will empower you to take charge of your future:
